Wrist & Hand Pain

Don't Suffer with Wrist & Hand Pain Any Longer

We use our hands daily to carry out a variety of functions. Wrist and hand pain are often very distracting and can cause you serious discomfort if left untreated for too long. Furthermore, a lack of mobility in the hands and wrists can stop you from carrying out several normal tasks. A skilled doctor will be capable of diagnosing the exact cause of your hand and wrist pain and recommend the appropriate treatment for the same.

Diagnosis & Treatments

If you are suffering from wrist and hand pain, we recommend that you visit our clinic as soon as possible. A weak or compromised wrist injury can cause irreversible damage if left untreated.

Our expert doctors will perform a complete physical examination of the affected area to determine what is causing the wrist and hand pain. Based on the results, you will be put on a treatment plan to remedy the cause of the pain and to prevent future injury. Treatments can range from heat/ice therapy, wearing a splint, pain-relief medication, lifestyle changes, and more.

What Are the Risk Factors Involved with Wrist & Hand Pain?

Most often, wrist injuries are common amongst sportspeople. Regardless of the intensity level, activities that put repetitive stress on the wrists and hands can cause people to develop pain and discomfort over time. The sports activities that are most likely to cause wrist and hand pain are bowling, tennis, football, golf, gymnastics, and snowboarding.

If you’re engaged in an occupation that requires you to use your hands and wrists for a major portion of the day, you could develop wrist and hand pain over time. This includes even simple activities like cutting hair, knitting, and driving, all of which can cause pain in the wrists and hands when performed with force or under strain.

Other health conditions like obesity, pregnancy, and diabetes put people at a greater risk of developing carpal tunnel syndrome.

The symptoms of wrist and hand pain are usually a dull ache or shooting pain in the affected area, swelling, a tingling sensation, numbness, and so on. These symptoms differ based on the exact cause of your pain.

What Are the Causes of Wrist & Hand Pain?

One of the most common reasons you may be suffering from wrist or hand pain is because of an injury to the area. If you have suffered a fall, lifted heavy objects with a jerking movement, or suddenly twisted your wrist, you could be suffering from a sprain or fracture.

Aside from this, the other causes of wrist pain are:

  • Repetitive stress, such as playing tennis or playing certain musical instruments, can give rise to De Quervain’s disease, which is a stress-induced condition.
  • Arthritis, more specifically osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis
  • Carpal tunnel syndrome – increased pressure in one region on the palm side of your wrist
  • Ganglion cysts – soft tissue cysts under the skin, which are quite painful
  • Kienbock’s disease – a progressive collapse of small bones in the wrist due to inadequate blood flow

There are other causes of wrist pain as well, but the ones listed above are most commonly seen today.
